A Primer on Kingdoms Live iPhone app MMO aka walkthrough Part 2

So if you followed along with the first part of the primer, you should know how to get started enough to start questing. The game actually has a tutorial that walks you thru the first few quests, but if you are anything like me, you blew through that and now are out on your own.

Quests are divided into four “zones.” Plains, Highlands, Forest and Tundra. You can unlock more zones as you level up. The first basic quest is called “Fight Soldier” and requires 1 mana. The rewards of both gold and experience are minimal, so you should quickly move on to more rewarding quests. As soon as you can, get a dagger so you can collect lumber for the village. Not only are the rewards better, but you have a chance at looting a flaming arrow. It’s not a great weapon, but if you don’t have money, and your army has grown, its a free one for them to use which is better than nothing. Continue questing and buying the required items to complete the quests as you get them until you reach two key new quests. Complete the quest “Rid Village of Bandits” over and over until you get the loot from the quest, which is a map to the bandit leader, and that lets you complete the quest “Defeat Bandit Leader.”

Once you have the 2 wood hatchets for the requirement, you should do this quest exclusively for a while. Not only does it have good rewards for the cost of mana, but it has a chance for very good loot at this level, the “poison dagger.” The dagger has 3 attack and 2 defense, making it better than your “Short Sword”, and the first thing you will get better than it is the “Broad Sword” which costs 100 gold.

There are some more quests in the plains after the bandit leader, but they all have requirements that have you spending gold on items that are less than ideal, and in the case of the fireball spell, put you with an upkeep. At level 10 you will unlock the Highlands, and get some new quests, the first one is “Save Prince from Goblins.” The rewards for it are good, and it’s time for you to start stocking up on “Leather Armor” from the armory. The reason for this is it’s simply the best item for its price at your level. Period. It costs 120 gold and gives 4 attack and 6 defense, and best yet, no upkeep cost. If you already bought a bunch of “Small Iron Shields” like we suggested early on, don’t sell them. Just buy new leather armor for all the new army members that you have. The combination of a short sword and leather armor gives you 7 attack and 7 defense for each army member using them. It’s a solid combination for this level. If you are building your army, and equipping them with the gold from your quests, you shouldn’t have any problems with your battles with opponents.

Battles

When you click the battle icon at the bottom of the screen you are presented with your choices of rival armies to attack. I advise you not to hit the big “ATTACK” button next to the names. The better choice is to click on the name, this will show you their equipment, and then you can make the informed decision as to whether to attack, or maybe put your invite code on their profile as a comment instead. Battles are a decent way to pick up some XP and, if you are lucky, gold, but losing battles gets you now where.

UPDATE: The guide continues with part 3or In depth look on battles

    The one thing that still confuses me about these games is how to join an army/clan/etc. My friends don’t have iPhones and therefore obviously don’t play, so is the only option posting your code on some random message board and hoping someone invites you? That seems kind of… weird and impersonal, but I guess that may be coming from an MMO background where your “guild” is more important.

    You are absolutely correct. You need to post your code on other profiles for them and other players to see it. Otherwise you will never grow your army. And I understand where you are coming from. In this game, your army is just a number of anonymous soldiers. There isn’t any sort of guild feel or functionality at this point.

    how do your stats (attack and defence) work in battle? is it better to put more in to one than another, or to keep them about the same as you level?
    also what advantages do being a warrior, rogue or wizard give you?

    Yes, you can reset your character. Go to “home” then touch “ancients.” Finally select “accept” next to the option “reset your character for free.” This is how it is set up as of now, but my change with updates of the game, or possibly changes to your character.

    God Bless. :)

    what is the “blue dot” that many players mention (and say it denotes your army members)… and how do you get that functionality? I don’t have that with anyone in my army. Thanks for a reply.

    This thread is incomplete. In the “Anicents” tab of the main menu, there is an option to add an army member to your army for the cost of 20 legend points. Legend points are purchasable in game points that allow you to fast track certain elements of the game. They can be bought in packs through iTunes and used to permanently increase the size of your army.

    What does it mean when another player says something like “you don’t want them in your army, they are just farming.”? What does farming entail? And why is it bad to have them in your army?

    @Melisunde

    okay, if you have an iphone, download the app, PALRINGO. Then under the groups tab, join the group called PRAETORIAN GUARDS, or PG CHAT. Either one is fine

    We are the largest united guild to ever play on Kingdoms Live. The first day or so will get you about twenty members at least.

    But yes, you can just type in your code into random people’s comment boards. That is probably the second fastest way.

    The third fastest way is to BROADCAST, or “bc” your code to your alliance. They will spread your code for you, (IF YOU ARE NICE AND HAVE A REP). in a guild, they do this for you.

    thanks.

    Farming means it is a person who basically just attacks for a living.

    Also, Storm8 comes out with occasional free points if you download a specific app. They are free of charge, and come out about every month or so. Look out for them in your home screen.

    If you have the emoticon enabled on your phone or itouch, there are many symbols to choose from that denotes your army. It is not always a blue dot, but can be a taurus symbol, a fire symbol or a tidal wave. Those are the major guilds in Kingdoms Live. There are hundreds more symbols, but it means that the person with those symbols are most likely in a clan or guild. Be careful not to attack them too often, as these guilds are tight and help out friends… ALOT.

    @stephen

    Attack skill improves when you attack. Defense skill improves your chance to defend. Any other stats are dependant on weapon, armor and spell skills. It is good, if you want to pursue the life of perpetual attacking, to put your skills into spirit and attack. Warriors are advantagous at this. If you want to increase defense and let your enemy come to you, then energy and defense is the way to go. The path of the mage is here. Finally, the rogue is for attack and energy. Questing is a big part of both the mage and the rogue life, but the rogue is better suited for attacking. hope this helps.

    Human, Elf and Orc also are common sense. Humans are rogue, orc good for warrior, elf good for mage. But mixing up may prove to be surprising! try it.
