I don’t like to eat at McDonald’s. Stacy likes to eat at McDonald’s. The result is that sometimes I wind up eating there. A few weeks ago while going thru the drive-thru we saw “Coming Soon” over some new sandwiches, a whole series of “Angus” burgers. While on the carbo-load portion of my CKD diet, I wound up back in the drive-thru recently with a decision to make. Which of the new sandwiches to try:
- Angus Deluxe
- Mushroom & Swiss
- Bacon & Cheese
I decided to start simple and go with the Deluxe. From a size of the sandwich perspective, the Angus Deluxe is a cross between a quarter pounder and a Big N’ Tasty. They weigh in at a 1/3 of a pound, and have a much wider footprint than the classic quarter pounder. The Deluxe model has a few more things in common with the Big N’ Tasty as well.
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Onions
- Pickles
- Cheese
It’s basically a slightly heavier version of a Big N’ Tasty. And from a beef standpoint, I can’t really say that there was really anything special about it. Normally when someone thinks of Angus beef, they are thinking higher quality beef. If it was better quality beef than an average McDonald’s burger, I can’t say that I noticed.
The Bun was also more rigid than I was expecting. Not necessarily hard or stiff, but not soft and fluffy either. It almost seemed artificially in between the extremes of what a bun usually feels like.
On the scale of fast food burgers, I give it a 5 out of 10. And it’s a tough call as to whether I would try the other two versions of the burger.
