The ultimate CKD shopping guide

As I have talked about before, I am on what is known as a CKD diet.  It’s somewhat strict when it comes to the foods that you can consume, and the whole thing can go wrong if you take in too much sugar/carbs.  So in the process of researching it, I found lots of meal plans that people had put together for an average day, which was very helpful.  But in reality, we don’t always want to eat the same exact thing every day, and even if we did, we need to buy the right types and quantities to last until the next shopping trip.  Enter this guide, a virtual walk thru the grocery store.  Some facts about this guide:

  • I live in California and shop at Safeway, but this guide should work at any grocery store
  • I went early Sunday morning.  It’s a calm time in the store, but if you want fish, its a bad time to shop
  • Click or mouseover the links to the food names and you will get a little popup with more info
  • Bookmark this page!  I’ll keep it updated with new shopping suggestions.

So lets get started with…

Stacy likes to eat at McDonald’s.  The result is that sometimes I wind up eating there.  A few weeks ago while going thru the drive-thru we saw “Coming Soon” over some new sandwiches, a whole series of “Angus” burgers.  While on the carbo-load portion of my CKD diet, I wound up back in the drive-thru recently with a decision to make.  Which of the new sandwiches to try:

  • Angus Deluxe
  • Mushroom & Swiss
  • Bacon & Cheese

I just want to listen to Howard Stern.

I just want to listen to Howard Stern. I still remember my first experience with Howard. I was 13 years old and I was out in a glorified row boat with 2 cousins fishing for Stripers in Long Island sound, when one of them said we had to go in and watch some TV show. I just wanted to fish, but he was talking about how the show has girls with huge breasts advertising Snapple iced tea. Now my head was spinning. I just didn’t understand how these women had anything to do with Snapple, or this guy, but I didn’t have much say in the matter since my cousins were older than me and we were already heading home. That night I watched my first episode of what most Stern fans refer to as “The Channel 9 show,” and I still remember the exact episode. It was the bowling alley episode where grandpa Munster was up against Young MC.
